WOY WOY CLUB INVITATIONAL FAREWELL
At the end of June we were honoured to share Woy Woy Club’s last hoorah officially bowling under their own banner of green and gold. Their club has been sold and is bound for redevelopment. A sporting facility such as this is an extreme loss to an aging population, particularly in a retirement capital such as Woy Woy, not to mention the dismembering of the camaraderie between the fun-loving members. Most of their club members have signed up with other local clubs (what a shame we’re not closer), but have agreed to reunite with us every so often to repeat those truly fantabulous day sharing our love of bowls here on the rink at Mooney Mooney along with our beloved Mud Crabs.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
In July we welcomed some new ladies seeking a relaxing, fun filled and exciting way to spend their spare time. One of them, Jennie, was full of exuberance and enthusiasm, but her injury forced her to stay off the green until she sourced a bowling arm - a device designed to help people with health issues. She finally received this in late August and is now happily playing away, learning new skills and we foresee her kicking “ahem" very soon! Monna is also enjoying her Wednesday sunset bowls and we hope to see them join in our Sunday bowls days very soon.
THE GREEN TURNS 50
Time is flying by and we were only recently alerted to the fact that the green was opened in September, 1973 and therefore turns 50 this month. With lots of chatter but little time, we’re hoping to host a social celebration, being an inter club invitational or a “business bowl off” either this month or early in October and celebrate this momentous event with a big birthday bash.
THE WEBSITE AND HISTORY
Whilst the weather has been a little cooler, our thoughts have turned indoors and club members have been busy in the background building and bringing our our website into today’s times. Opposed to that is the discovery of some old Ladies Club photographs and history, which will be uploaded to the webpage on a separate history page for posterity and safe keeping.
AND FINALLY… We’d like to welcome the new Mud Crabs President “Hot Shot Scott” Ryan. Here’s to plenty of on-the-green friendly warfare!
